My passion for photography began long ago.
My career in the field of communications exposed me to a variety of wonderful creative experiences. As photo editor for LIFE magazine, I learned from the best in the business. While at Showtime Networks, I managed an entire photo department and worked along side corporate communications executives and creative directors to produce media-driven, award-winning results.

Creating an environment in which families, especially children are comfortable and free to be who they are is what I do best! I take great "candid" shots. Our studio provides you with the opportunity to preserve treasured occasions for future enjoyment by everyone.
We speak ahead of time to plan the shoot - the look... the mood... the location. If you don't prefer the studio environment we can travel to your home or some other location. Weather permitting, a nice outdoor location is also an option. My love of photography began many years ago. I spent time in the military where I was able to photograph people, places and things all around the world. Photographing families and family gatherings is my specialty as well as scenic scapes, buildings and landscapes. We love exciting our clients with a photograph of a special moment that they can treasure for years. Years before the World Trade Center Towers were destroyed, I photographed them as the light of the afternoon sun reflected off the glass making them appear surreal. Great news photos are often about being in the right place at the right time with your camera.

We are a husband-and-wife team who work in tandem to bring you a fine photographic product consistent with what you see here on our website. The wide breadth of experience between the two of us makes D.W. Matthews Studios the photographic studio to meet all your needs.

Deirdre hired photographers and managed several photo shoots on movie set locations when she was a manager at Showtime Networks, including this one where she worked with academy-award winning actor and executive producer, Sidney Poitier.

While at Life Magazine, Deirdre developed a close working relationship with the late Gordon Parks, famed photojournalist and Renaissance man.
